A VERY FINE SHIBAYAMA GOLD LACQUER MOKKOGATA TSUBA, MEIJI PERIOD
Signed Nemoto-zo. Inlaid in mother of pearl, coral, ivory, and shakudo on a nashiji and kirikane ground and decorated in takamakie and hiramakie lacquer, with silver and cloisonne rim.

One side depicting two rabbits toasting a female figure with libation, the reverse showing masked oni (devils) scheming to carry out bad deeds.
Nemoto was a member of the Shibayama family who produced very fine work, 11.3 x 10 cm.
