Coming from a well-to-do family from Sydney, Mitty was fortunate to have the financial ability to explore her artistic ideas freely. Throughout the 1940's and 50's, Mitty lived through Paris, Rome, and Ischia, taking inspiration from the varied European landscapes around her.
Various records of her life paint a vivid picture of a charming, witty, and passionate woman who was loved and feared equally, however this energy did not translate to her artistic drive and her career never realised.
She remained a close friend of both William Dobell and Donald Friend.
