The neice of Jane Sutherland, one of Australia's most renowned artists from the Heidelberg School, Ruth Sutherland was born in Adelaide and studied at the National Gallery School under Bernard Hall. As well as focusing on her own practice, Ruth was a writer and critic and her work appeared in Melbourne newspaper 'The Age'.
