A PAIR OF LUZON ISLAND 'BULUL' WOODEN RICE GUARDIAN FIGURES
IFUGAO PEOPLE, PHILIPPINES, 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Carved as seated male and female figures, on a integral waisted square section plinth, with fine old patina.
The larger figure 43cm high, 10.5cm wide. The smaller figure 35cm high, 9cm wide.

Estimate $4,000 - $6,000

Sold for $5,500

both figures with old worm holes, and encrusted patina. the taller with small age cracks and very small chips and losses. The smaller figure with separartion splits to the arms, and an old repair at the back of the plinth, along with small chips and losses.
