The Artist
Private collection, Victoria

"Many of Peter Peryer's most intense photographs are close-up views of flowers. His earlier pictures engage on a primitive level with deep sensory pleasure but, in general, the images are not overtly anxious or expressionist. Instead, this body of work is about the beauty of the natural world, a beauty given even greater presence by the cultural contribution of the photographer. Once arranged in the studio and lit for effect each flower, like a human body, assumes a high degree of tactility and material richness which focus the viewer's attention of flesh."
(Ann Elias, The Language of Flowers, Photographs by Peter Peryer)
