Melbourne, East and West Art Gallery, 'Exhibition of Paintings and woodblock prints by Chou Earthstone', May, 1990.
Earthstone Chu is a renowned Taiwanese-Australian artist whose work redefines the boundaries of traditional Chinese ink painting. A graduate of Chinese Culture University in Taipei, Chu's early artistic practice evolved through a deeply personal transformation in the 1970s. Influenced by Tai Chi, Daoist philosophy, and decades of self-cultivation, his art has grown into a meditative, spiritual language that transcends time and culture.
Blending fluid brushwork, minimalist form, and poetic energy, Chu's paintings reflect the inner rhythm of nature and the human spirit. His unique visual language has resonated globally, earning him recognition across Australia, Asia, and beyond. Over his five-decade career, Chu has created more than 8,000 works and held numerous solo and group exhibitions. His recent series, including Going as This, In the Mountain, and Seeing Through, continue his exploration of energy, presence, and impermanence.
Highly sought-after by collectors for both their beauty and depth, Chu's works are more than visual experiences-they are invitations to contemplate life's unseen forces.
