Lot 22

Giorgio de CHIRICO (1888–1978)
A shoulder-length portrait of a young woman
Oil on composition board
Signed lower right: F. de Chirico

19 x 15cm

Estimate $8,000 - $12,000

Sold for $24,000

The work is framed and has not been examined out of the frame in preparing this report; the reverse of the work, which is sealed within a backing board, has not been sighted.

Inspection under natural and UV light indicates the work is in very good condition with no damage or later painting apparent.

There are three short, minor shrinkage cracks to the centre of the lower edge of the work (as visible in the catalogue photos).

The edges of the board are concealed within the rebate of the frame but three small paint losses are visible extending slightly beyond the sight edge at the lower right corner and other points around the lower edges (also visible in the catalogue photos). A loss to the lower left corner of the board is also visible, although this might be original to the making of the work (as it appears that paint extends over the edge of this loss).

The work is housed in gilt frame that is probably around twenty years old and remains in a good condition.

The opinions expressed in the condition reports are a guide only and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
