Lot 82
Early 20th century
Circular, the ivory button to the centre of a white guilloché enamel top above the spreading nephrite base, mounted with various silver borders and mouldings
4cm high, 6cm diameter
Estimate $5,000 - $7,000
Generally in good condition consistent with age and use.
The enamelled top rests neatly in place on the base but loosely; if the top originally fitted in place more firmly, this is now not so. The silver moulding around the edge of the top has a recessed lower edge which fits inside the silver of the base; this recessed edge is bent and partly worn away on one side (to the length of about 1cm) and slightly bent at a couple of other points, although none of this is visible with the top in place (all hidden within the rim of the base).
There is a small, shallow depression (about 4mm long) in the silver rim of the base, and another more slight dent on its other side; both are visible with the top in place, albeit inconspicuous.
The upper part of the ivory button (the part usually exposed) is a little dirty; its lower part (usually hidden) is more dirty.
The electrical terminals within the base are present but we do not know whether the electrical parts are complete. The base is drilled with a small hole for a wire, apparently original.
