A MINTON SIDE PLATE TOGETHER WITH A PAIR OF DERBY PLATES
18th & 19th century



The Minton plate, decorated with turquoise ground and moulding picked out in gilt. The centre decorated with a branch of plums painted by Thomas Steele, circa 1836
A moulded shell shaped dish with violets and gilded leaves, gilding to rim, one painted with a red crown over "D" and"N" to underside dated 1780, the other painted red crown over crossed
battons and six dots and "D" to underside, date 1810.

The largest 25.5cm wide

Overall condition good. Small chip to the rim and base of one Derby plate. Minor loss to gilt.

Thomas Steele who was apprenticed at Wedgwood in 1787, went to Derby to become one of their foremost fruit and flower painters. He moved to Rockingham and then to Minton where he stayed until 1850
