In two sections as typical, of four drawers overall, two drawer fronts applied with engraved brass ownership plates of 'Thomas Ferrier Hamilton Esq', raised on four bun feet, the whole in a rich ebonizing lacquer

Thomas Ferrier Hamilton was an Australian politician and sportsman. Scottish born, he emigrated to Australia in 1839. As a local magistrate and justice of the peace, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council in 1872, sitting as a member for the Southern Province until 1884. Hamilton also had a keen interest in cricket, and played several matches, as well as being a member and former president of the Melbourne Cricket Club.
