watercolour on paper
initalled lower right: A.S.

Estimate $12,000 - $18,000

Sold for $10,000

Paper is in very reasonable condition given age. Very faint foxing can be seen mainly across the top half of the work. A wave throughout the paper can indicate that it has not been to be glued down to the backing board. Please note, this work has not been inspected from outside of the frame. No tears, holes or creases are visible anywhere on a work. Colours are fresh, clear and appear to be true to original form.

The opinions expressed in the condition reports are a guide only and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Prospective buyers are encouraged to inspect articles for sale at our pre-sale viewing where Leonard Joel staff are available for advice.

The Estate of James Ford Strachan IV, Victoria

Galbally, A., Arthur Streeton, Lansdowne Press, Melbourne 1969, p. 70:
"In January 1922, Streeton and his wife set sail for England via Canada, disembarking at Vancouver and travelling across country to St. Mary's, Ontario, where three months were spent with Mrs Streeton's mother. The Canadian landscape stimulated Streeton, and he returned there the following year from London for a painting trip."
