Dorothy Mary Braund studied at the National Gallery School under William Dargie, Alan Sumner and Murray Griffin from 1945 to 1949, with her first solo exhibition in 1952.
In 1992 Christopher Heathcote noted that many artists who came to maturity in the 1950s have been "unjustly neglected" and that Braund was no exception.
