A PAIR OF JAPANESE FUKAGAWA STUDIO VASES
MEIJI PERIOD, CIRCA 1890s

Of baluster form, richly decorated with birds and peonies in underglaze blue, against an iron red ground, with other overglaze enamels and gilding. The base of each with a three-character mark "Fukagawa zo" beneath the Fukagawa Mt Fuji pictographic mark.
26cm high, 20cm diameter

Estimate $400 - $600

Sold for $320

One vase with a star crack to one side. Both with some very minor wear to the gilding. Otherwise no further visible faults or damage.
