Rebecca Scibilia is an exciting mid-career painter who utilises a variety of media for her works on paper and canvas. She inspired by popular culture influences, sourcing imagery from her favourite DVDs and celebrity magazines. From these reference points, she creates profoundly abstract artworks in bold texta paints that result in a lurid colour palette. Catchphrases weave through her work, adding layers of symbolism and humour. Contrary to her usual mode of working from pop culture imagery, her 2019 artwork Tokyo Disneyland is inspired by her recent travels to Japan. Scibilia has worked at Arts Project since 1999. She held her first solo exhibition in 2014 and has exhibited extensively in group shows nationally as well as internationally. She has work in the Leeuwin Estate Collection as well as private collections in Australia.
