Embracing the spiritual iconography of multiple cultures, Tim Johnson creates complex and alluring paintings. He employs a unique visual language often composed of cultural borrowings, floating landscapes, and rich patterns resulting in a tapestry of cross-cultural connections. Johnson's multi-layered approach is shown in the work Three Friends 1990, and while he evenly disperses individual tones in a rhythmic order across the canvas, he still allows for the subject matter to take a more nuanced, abstract aesthetic.
