Lot 67
EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The cocktail shaker of typical form, decorated with a dragon to body and lid. Marker's marks for Sing Fat, together with two pairs of napkin rings, the first pair decorated with dragons, maker's marks for Hung Chong, the second pair decorated with scholars and pavilions, unmarked.
The cocktail shaker 20cm high
Estimate $1,000 - $2,000
There are scattered typical light dents to all three parts of the shaker. More prominently, the edge of the foot of the body has received a heavier impact from its underside, slightly pushing up and creasing the foot at this point. The shaker's top cap has also received a heavier knock at some point, causing creasing in the silver, but this has been considerably softened and smoothed by handling over time. The vertical seam to one side of the shaker has become slightly unstuck at its top, but this is completely concealed with the shaker's cover when that is in place. There are some slight, flat horizontal creases running around the upper part of the body of the shaker, just above the dragon, but this appears original to the working of the piece.
Of the napkin rings, a 1.5cm long (approx.) section of the bamboo beading to the top of one of the larger rings, is coming away from the ring. Otherwise, all four rings show typical light wear, including points at which their edges are slightly bent of circular alignment.
