Lot 196
MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)
Expansive design of hills and pines overlooked by the mystical shape of Mount Fuji. The design worked in ink over patinated silver leaf and with signature of Akemi.
Each panel 172cm x 63.5cm x 2cm
Estimate $4,000 - $5,000
The decorated parts of the panels show age and wear throughout, with variations in colour, some discolouration, and extensive oxidisation of the silver leaf. There are various lighter surface scrapes and scuffs throughout and some more substantial impact damage including a lengthy tear to the lower part of the left-most panel and small tears elsewhere. There is wear at the meeting edges of the panels, quite pronounced and with surface paper loss in some places. The fabric-lined borders and oak frame are generally in good condition.
