Ethleen Palmer began to experiment with relief printmaking in 1933, developing a complex printing tecnhnique of subtly overlaying colour, producing prints strongly reminiscent of Japanese prints, in composition and execution. Her ability to capture movement, detail and nature in the Japanese style gave her the name "The Australian Hokusai".
Another impression of this print is held in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
