Lot 166
Claw-set with an oval black opal cut en cabochon, below an old European and brilliant-cut diamond drop, the opal weighing 7.19 carats, the diamonds together weighing approximately 0.35 carats, to an integral fine chain completed by a bolt ring clasp in 9ct white gold, length 600mm.
Accompanied by AGI Opal certificate number 01487 dated 11th September 1985 stating opal origin Lightning Ridge.
Estimate $8,000 - $12,000
In our opinion, the opal displays good play-of-colour, two small spots of potch evident. The mixed old cut diamonds are probably of F/Hcolour and VS/SI clarity as gauged and graded within the limitations of the cutting style and the mounting. The mounting has wear to the metal in the form of minor scratches.
The pendant is of good workmanship with signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Clasp secure.
Overall condition is good.
