UNIQUE BULGARI 'MONETE' PAIR OF ANCIENT COIN, RUBY AND DIAMOND EARRINGS
Property From a Private Queensland Collector

Each designed as an octagonal 18ct gold frame centring a bezel-set ancient coin depicting the profile of Demeter wearing a wreath of grain ears and a pendant earring facing dexter, the reverse engraved LOCRIS OPUNTII 4th cent. B.C., terminating on a volute pavé-set with brilliant cut diamonds between a circular cabochon ruby accent, width 19.5mm length 26.0mm, post and clip fitting, threaded post deficient, gross weight 29 grams, signed Bulgari, 750, Italian registry marks, double B logotype.

NOTE: In Greek mythology Demeter was the goddess of agriculture, grain, and fertility and her worship was widespread in ancient Greece. In Lokris, she likely held a special place in local cults and rituals, especially given the region's agricultural reliance despite its relatively infertile terrain. By placing Demeter on their coinage, the Lokrians were not only honouring a deity but also projecting an image of cultural refinement and divine protection, especially during times of conflict like the Third Sacred War.
