Lot 175
A late afternoon scene of cattle on a track beneath eucalyptus trees, the moon rising beyond
Watercolour
Signed lower left: HANS HEYSEN
38 x 31cm
Estimate $8,000 - $12,000
The work is framed behind glass and has not been examined out of the frame in preparing this report.
The work is a little faded and perhaps slightly time-stained but otherwise well preserved. There is a tiny and unobtrusive superficial nick in the surface of the paper upper right (to the right of the right-most foliage); a small old droplet of whitish material touching the second 'H' in the signature; and another smaller droplet of the same material upper left (in the upper left-most foliage), all as visible in the catalogue photos.
The work is housed in a gilt frame apparently of similar period as the work, which is in good condition, although the mount is a little dirty (and being in an old acidic board, would ideally be replaced with a new conservation standard mount anyway).
The opinions expressed in the condition reports are a guide only and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Prospective buyers are encouraged to seek further information or request additional images during our pre-sale period where Leonard Joel staff are available for advice. Please note condition reports can be amended during the pre-sale period, so we strongly suggest any interested bidders check the published condition report available on the website before the auction commences. Leonard Joel makes no guarantee of the originality of mechanical or applied components. Absence of reference to such modifications does not imply that a lot is free from modifications.
