Lot 50

A GEORGE II OAK CHEST OF DRAWERS
Mid-18th century

Rectangular, the top with moulded edge above two short and three long drawers, on bracket feet
89cm high, 95cm wide, 53cm deep

Estimate $600 - $900

Sold for $2,200

Structurally sound and generally very well presented, with typical light knocks and superficial marks consistent with age and use.

To each side there is a vertical shrinkage gap between the two boards of which each side is made up (that on the left side being visible in the catalogue photo); also shrinkage gaps and splits to the drawer bottoms.

With the exception of the upper right drawer, the drawers retain their locks, but with no key present for these. The brasses are sympathetic replacements.
