Lot 224
An advertising poster for the Australian National Travel Association: 'Australia's 150th Anniversary, Sydney, 1938 – "Venetian Nights, Sydney Harbour"'
Colour photo-lithograph
Signed in the plate lower right: Douglas Annand
Printed for the Australian National Travel Association, 1938
10 x 63cm (sheet)
Estimate $1,400 - $2,000
The poster is framed behind clear acrylic and has not been examined out of the frame.
It appears the poster has been fully laid down to a paper (or paper-covered) support.
There are no blank margins outside the printed area. (We have been unable to establish whether the absence of margins is original or the result of later trimming.)
Close inspection under raking light through the acrylic indicates the poster is largely in good condition but with various closed tears and flattened soft creases, mostly short and mostly (but not solely) around the sheet edges. These are generally inconspicuous at normal viewing, partly because some of the tears appears to have been delicately touched with colour to blend with the adjacent printed colour.
The frame shows some knocks and scuffs, including small loss to one edge, and surface dirt.
The opinions expressed in the condition reports are a guide only and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
