Lot 222

Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875–1942)
An advertising poster for the watch-maker Election: 'Montre Election, l'élue entres toutes'
Colour lithograph
Signed in the stone lower right: LCappiello

Printed by Vercasson, Paris, early 1920s
119.5 x 79.5cm (sheet)

Estimate $2,000 - $3,000

Sold for $2,000

The poster is framed behind clear acrylic and has not been examined out of the frame.

It appears the poster has been fully laid down to a paper (or paper-covered) support.

It retains original margins of 3.5–4cm outside the printed area.

Inspection through the acrylic indicates the poster is largely in good condiition but with the following: a light impact and associated fine fractures, apparently without paper loss, to the left side of the watch bezel (the affected area being about 7.5 x 1.5cm overall); a closed curving vertical tear (about 3.5cm long, appearing as a fine white line in the blue ground) towards the right edge (to the right of the bow of the watch); a soft horizontal crease extending from the right edge to a point above the figure holding the 'IIX'; and a flattened short pull in the paper (about 2cm long) immediately to the left of the upper registration mark.

The frame shows some bumps to corners and edges, and surface dirt.
