Lot 112
Circa 1870
The rectangular top with slightly projecting centres and corners and moulded edges above three frieze drawers to one long side and a conforming frieze to the other, raised on tapering turned and fluted supports with gadrooned feet and brass casters, the top inlaid with a border of running husk design in various woods, the frieze with panels of key pattern design, fine gilt bronze mounts throughout including to the edge of the top, various foliate mounts to the frieze, and husk pendants within the flutes of the supports
72.5cm high, 107cm wide, 60cm deep
Estimate $7,000 - $10,000
Generally in excellent condition, proficiently and sympathetically restored and repolished a decade or so ago.
At one corner of the top, the gilt bronze moulding to the edge is out of alignment with its rebate (apparently caused by shrinkage in the overall depth of the top over time, leaving the rigid moulding projecting outside its rebate.) The same has occurred at the other three corners, to a lesser degree at one and to a much less degree at the other two.

The present table is closely comparable in design and quality of execution to a pair of tables supplied by Holland & Sons to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) and Princess Alexandra around 1870 (sold Sotheby's, Property from the Collections of Lily and Edmond J. Safra, New York, 18 October 2011, lot 752).
