Juliana Morton (1825–1905) was the third daughter of William and Juliana Morton (for whom see the preceding lot). In 1845 she married Captain Edward Hervey, an officer in the Indian Army, but the marriage was unhappy. After the death of their young daughter, Juliana separated from her husband and embarked on a two-year exploration of the northern frontier of British India, reaching China. Her journal of her travels forms the basis of her The Adventures of a Lady in Tartary, Thibet, China, & Kashmir (1853), a copy of which – apparently her own – is included with the present lot.
