Jean-Marc Nattier was the son of the portraitist Marc Nattier (1642-1705). In 1702 Marc Nattier obtained a license to reproduce as engravings the twenty-four paintings comprising the monumental Marie de' Medici cycle by Peter Paul Rubens in the Palais du Luxembourg. In order to undertake this he involved his two sons, including Jean-Marc, to execute the drawings from which the most prominent French engravers of the time made their reproductive prints. This drawing may be the lost original drawing for the print by Benoît Audran I in Jean-Marc Nattier's hand.

RELATED WORKS:
Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640), The Presentation of her Portrait to Henri IV, Marie de' Medici cycle, Louvre, Paris
Benoît Audran I (1661 - 1721) after Jean-Marc Nattier after Sir Peter Paul Rubens, The Presentation of her Portrait to Henri IV (Henri IV délibère sur son futur mariage), engraving, published by Jean-Marc Nattier between 1707-1709
