Of typical George III form, the superstructure with a brass gallery above an arrangement of small drawers and cupboards around the gilt-tooled leather-lined writing surface with central slope rising on a ratchet, with three frieze drawers, on tapering square supports with brass caps and casters joined with a recessed undertier with a brass gallery, cross-banded in rosewood throughout, the front variously inlaid with musical trophies and other classical motifs, Howard & Sons' ivorine label affixed to the interior of one frieze drawer adjacent to the number 8084 / 2538 impressed to the top of the drawer front
