Lot 168

SALOMON ROMBOUTS (Dutch, 1655-1702)
(The Hunt)
oil on panel
signed lower left: SRombouts
39.5 x 65.5cm

Estimate $5,000 - $7,000

Sold for $5,000

There are minor losses to the work, most notably in the lower left. The wooden panel has two prominent horizontal splits. The work displays substantial surface dirt and discolouration as with age.
Under UV light, the painting shows evidence of minor conservation. The old varnish is also apparent under UV light which has dirtied with age. It is recommended that the work be professionally cleaned to remove this varnish to allow the richness of the pigment beneath to become more prominent.
The verso has been sealed with plastic film to prevent moisture penetrating.
