Leo Cussen was a much-loved member of the APA studio. He drew inspiration from the tropes and personalities of Hollywood's film culture. There is an incredibly expressive quality to his pastel works on paper, which is characterised by movement, text and humour. Cussen worked in at APA for 17 years and exhibited widely both nationally and internationally during his lifetime, showing at Australian Galleries, Latrobe Regional Gallery, The Museum of Everything in London and National Gallery of Australia. His work is held in significant state museums and private collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia.
