Terry Williams is an established artist with a career that spans three decades. His tactile, pillow-like soft sculptures are constructed with found materials featuring exaggerated, conspicuous stitching and are intensely physical and bulging in their form. His process is immersive and idiosyncratic, ruminating on and storing ideas until they manifest into complex and multi-faceted creations. Not titled (parachuting diver) is an exemplary work in its reference to subject matter; the deep sea and air pursuits and accompanying helmets a recurring theme in his practice. Williams has worked at Arts Project since 1989. He has presented in numerous significant exhibitions including a solo show curated by Ricky Swallow at White Columns, New York in 2015. His work is held in private collections throughout Australia and internationally.
