The exterior naturalistically painted as a scallop shell, the bottom and the bottom half of the interior further decorated with flowers and scrolling vines. With contemporary European gilt metal mounts and hinge. The interior bearing a label for E&J Frankel Collection, no. 164.

Light wear to the enamels, and to the gilt metal mounts. Enamel cracks and evidence of restoration to the interior of the lid (possibly to conceal cracks which occured during the enamelling process.
