Berry's Untitled (Two Birds) depicts the two spirited animals side by side, exhibiting what appears to be an intensely strong bond, the figure on the left staring the viewer down in an almost protective manner.
Dorothy Berry is a painter who approaches her practice with great passion, which is evident in the energy and vibrancy of her images. The work demonstrates a keen interest in animals and often employs them in a symbolic sense. She has developed a complex set of signs to construct personal narratives, and her work often recounts an experience, event, belief or opinion relating to her life.
Berry started working at Arts Project Australia in 1985 and has been featured in numerous solo and group shows worldwide. Public collections include National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; National Gallery of Victoria, as gifted by Stuart Purves; and MADmusée, Lèige. Her work is also held in national and international private and corporate collections.
