Untitled (Obama) by Tycho Dahlstrom depicts the former president in a proud pose, the image structured as if to read like a handmade birthday card to a beloved family member.

Tycho Dahlstrom is an emerging figurative artist who works in a small-scale format with greylead and colour pencil on paper. His interests — including drawing, music and popular culture — play out through his art practice resulting in stylised characters and political figures from TV that he likes, such as Obama, as well as loathes. The portraits seem to connect directly with the viewer staring straight out of the page and reveal his offbeat humour as well as skill for drawing people.

Dahlstrom has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2019 and has exhibited in group exhibitions in Melbourne. His work is held in private collections in Australia.
