Untitled exemplifies Longhurst's practice, depicting a flower-filled garden from aerial view against a blue pond-like background.
Fiona Longhurst's works are characterised by sensitive use of colour and intricate pattern making. The imagery, often layered with text, appears whimsical yet maintains a harmonious balance of rich density and quiet space. Longhurst's work can be likened to that of Miro and 'automatic drawing', a style developed by the surrealists as a means of expressing the subconscious where the hand moves freely across the paper.
Fiona Longhurst has been a regular artist at Arts Project Australia since 1991. She has been included in numerous group exhibitions at organisations including Platform Artists' Group, Melbourne; Vita Gallery, Portland; and Centre d'Art Differencié, Liége. Her work is held in private collections throughout Australia.
