The well-known sculptor Arthur Fleischmann was born in
Bratislava, Czechoslovakia and studied in Prague, Vienna, Italy and France before arriving in Australia in 1939.
En-route to Australia he worked in Bali for six months in 1938, and during this stay he completed twenty-five terracotta studies of dancers, priests, children and young women, which he brought with him to Australia.
Few have survived and only four (terracotta) pieces have been offered at public auction during the last thirty years.
