EDO PERIOD (1603-1868), 18TH CENTURY, LEONARD JOEL LOCAL DELIVERY: SMALL
In tea-whish shape, with three dimples pressed into the sides to create a triangular form, one dimple decorated with an applied relief-moulded image of Hotei. Further decorated with 'Goma' splashes and 'hidasuki' lines around the neck and sides. Together with a Japanese wooden box inscribed with an authentication by Katsura Matasaburo.

Katsura Matasaburo (1901-1986) was a renowned Japanese independant researcher and author who specialised in excavating ko-Bizen (old Bizen), studying inscriptions and kiln marks, and authenticating Bizen pottery pieces.
