Lot 122
The vase is supported by three equidistant gilded copper goat figures, crafted with remarkable lifelikeness, symbolizing the traditional concept of Sanyang Kaitai (Three Goats Heralding Prosperity).
The word "goat" (yang) is a homophone for "sun" (yang), with the three goats representing the rising sun, midday sun, and setting sun—each symbolizing vibrant vitality. The rising sun signifies illumination and radiant clarity; the midday sun represents fullness and brilliance; and the setting sun embodies a golden glow and majestic beauty. Additionally, "goat" (yang) is also associated with "auspiciousness" (xiang). Its gentle and refined nature has long been regarded as a symbol of etiquette and morality, embodying the virtues of "gentle as a lamb.
