Lot 161
Graham Geddes, Melbourne, 1990s
Of typical form, the moulded frame with carved decorative details, upholstered in tan leather
104cm high, 69cm wide, 72cm deep
Estimate $500 - $700
Generally in good condition, the joints firm and the leather clean, excepting a superficial scrape across the pad on one arm rest; occasional light scuffs around high points of the frame.
Towards the forward end of the right-hand seat rail, a knock has dislodged slight chips of wood along the lower edge (not conspicuous amidst the original simulated distressing of the frame).
At the base of each of the uprights of the back, where these meet the leather at the rear end of the seat rails, a vertical line of small nail holes and slight impressions in the wood indicates that there were previously lines of close-nailing here, matching the nailing throughout, but since removed. This removal has left staples beneath the ends of the lather slightly exposed.
