Lot 69
Three early views of Melbourne:
i. Yarra Yarra from below Princes Bridge, 1853;
ii. Collins Street looking West, 1853;
iii. The Old Post-Office, Melbourne, 1853
Tinted lithographs
The lithographs drawn by D. James after Thomas's original drawings, published by F. Varley, Melbourne, circa 1853
Each around 15 x 25.5cm (sight size, not including original captions below)
Estimate $500 - $800
The lithographs are framed behind glass and have not been examined out of their frames in preparing this report.
'Yarra Yarra from below Princes Bridge' is evenly age-toned throughout; it has slightly slipped in its mount, causing the lower part of its title to be obscured beneath the mount.
The other plates have occasional small and unobtrusive areas of faint discolouration and are probably slightly toned overall.
The mounts, which are of different colours, are aged and the frames a little bumped.
