Lot 93

AN IMPRESSIVE LARGE VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER CENTREPIECE EPERGNE CANDELABRUM
Elkington & Co. Ltd, Birmingham, 1857

Modelled as a woody grapevine with a circular (replacement) Stuart crystal bowl to the top above five lights on branches radiating from the stem rising from a triangular plinth base on scrolling foliate feet
74cm high (including the glass bowl), 51cm diameter, 8,674g

Estimate $8,000 - $10,000

Sold for $22,000

In good condition consistent with age and use, tarnished and with accumulated dirt in recesses.

One of the two sprays of grapes and leaves to the top of the plinth, which are held in place with threaded posts running through to the underside, has lost the nut (underside) to its threaded post but is otherwise resting in place.

The cut crystal dish (which is lightly scratched) is not original to the candelabrum and does not closely fit the basket.
