A 17TH CENTURY EUROPEAN TORTOISESHELL, ORMOLU AND ALABASTER CABINET ON STAND
Having a baluster gallery top surmounted by two ormolu figures, above a pair of glazed doors enclosing the architectural interior of drawers around a central mirrored cupboard; all richly mounted in ormolu, inlaid with ebony and tortoiseshell with alabaster columns flanking the niches containing statues of Jupiter, Neptune and Apollo; on a later tortoiseshell inlaid and ebonised stand with barley twist legs centred with an urn.

Glass doors and stand probably late 19th century in date, old worm activity to rail of balustrade on top, some loose balsters losses and loose pieces of ebony veneer to cabinet, on cornice, rear back corner left hand side, losses to brass line inlay, sun fading to left side panel, paint loss to inside of right glass door, one onyx column detached on left door, with crack and losses to ebonised base, left column of central door with old repair, onyx columns on right aedicule each with crack, small piece of missing moulding below left one, traces of white residue on loose column capital (old glue?), ormolu mouldings loose on some drawers, surface dirt and dust, stand with missing brass lines and ivory elements. Carcase mainly pine and drawers apparently poplar, mirror glass in central cabinet mottled and old, apparent old repair to inside of central door, one drawer with torn silk lining, gilding has been tested in XRF scanner and no mercury apparent so seemingly not fire gilt, see image of scan. Three loose small drawers we cannot find a place for.
