Lot 155

AN ANTIQUE MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY KIDNEY-SHAPED PEDESTAL DESK
Early 20th century

In George III manner, the top lined with gilt-tooled green leather above a central frieze drawer and the pedestals each with four drawers, on tapering square feet with brass casters, inlaid throughout with Classical designs of foliate and other motifs and holly stringing
76cm high, 122cm wide, 65cm deep

Estimate $800 - $1,200

Sold for $1,100

Generally in good condition consistent with age and use and previous restoration, with typical light knocks and wear, mostly to edges.

There are small veneer repairs to drawer dividers above five locks (repairing damage caused by the bolts of the locks below); also various repairs and unrepaired cracks to the base moulding above most of the supports. In most cases the repairs mentioned above are a little mismatching in colour.

The brasses are original. A retaining post of one drawer pull is broken (immediately behind its back plate), leaving the pull detached, but with all parts present. All locks are present but no key for these.
