The trapezoidal chape is finely carved in high relief on one side with a sinuous chilong amid scrolling foliage, while the reverse is decorated in low relief with a stylised zoomorphic mask marked with scrollwork.
Comparable jade chapes include an example decorated on both sides with stylised scrollwork, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 29 November 2022, lot 2761. See also a related example sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 5 December 2023, lot 741. For another comparable chape carved with similar zoomorphic masks on both sides, see Sotheby's Hong Kong, 1 April 2019, lot 3019.
