FRANCIS PERIGAL, LONDON ROYAL EXCHANGE, CIRCA 1795
In a fine mahogany balloon shaped case, surmounted by a pagoda top with a flame finial. The case supported by a plinth base and raised on four cast brass bracket feet, with the four sides of the plinth decorated with applied frets. The case decorated with boxwood stringing and a panel in the base. The rear door set with perforated grille. Eight day twin fusee movement with anchor escapement and bob pendulum. Bell striking on the hour. The white enamel convex dial with matching hands is inscribed Francis Perigal- Royal Exchange - London

Scratches to case overall, cracks to case and significant losses to string inlay around dial. Very minor chips to dial. Hands original, minor scratches to glass. Purpose built movement for case, all original. Back fret repaired.

The Perigal family had three generations of clockmakers, each with the christian name Francis. He was a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1781, Master of Clockmakers Company in 1806 and is also recorded as Watchmaker to the King.
