Lot 7
BY THOMAS AMYOT, NORWICH, CIRCA 1720-1730
The 12-inch brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial, and calendar aperture. The eight-day weight driven movement, striking, the dial signed The Thos_Amyot_Norwich.
The contents from the Peninsula home of Sir Ian Potter and Lady Potter AC.
242cm high, 52cm wide, 23cm deep
Estimate $3,000 - $5,000
It is uncertain as to whether the movement is original to the case: there are gaps around the edges of the movement where light can be seen; the movement would originally have been screwed in place within the case, but it has actually been fixed in place with four nails at a later date and does not sit perfectly within the case; the movement 'ticks over' but is somewhat behind the beat, so a full service is recommended; evidence of previous wood worm activity primarily in the front right and back right column of the hood and in other isolated areas, together with restoration to the lower section of the back left column of the hood; losses and wear to the case throughout consistent with age and use over time.
