Robin Stewart, Australian Galleries, 13 April - 2 May 2021, cat. no. AG113542

Drawing has always been a part of Robin Stewart's art, often beginning his work from pencil drawings and grids and then graduating to oil paintings. He is inspired by the Russian painters of the early twentieth century, the Constructivists and the European and American moderns.
Much of Robin's art details the modern predicament.
"My paintings are memories of working in business and present urban living. Of boardrooms and working under pressure, time constraints of career and family needs. Making money. The feelings of that time spark intuition and the notions of working in the corporate world, working late in empty buildings and night-time work, often in hostile environments. Corporate life, self-created, had become for me a great opportunity with newness and change. It's also a remorseless, exhausting scramble. A modern human predicament. This theme is carried into forgotten employees in other fields; in factories, offices, garages, high rise buildings, musicians, white collar and blue-collar jobs." (The Artist)
