"Five woodblock prints by John Nixon were included in the print portfolio Aus Australien (From Australia) produced in 1988 by German curator and galleriest René Block. All are monochromes in various dimensions, although traditionally a woodblock print is engraved with an image, and sometimes printed in several colours. Nixon considers the monochrome to be a reduction back to the conceptual essence of the self, and back to the essence of art, and consequently each print is entitled Self-Portrait (Non-Objective Composition)."
