Bauhaus and Expressionism: German prints and drawings from the Art Gallery of New South Wales, New England Regional Art Museum, Armidale, 4 March - 15 May 2005 (another impression)

Schwarzbauer, R., and Bell, C., Ludwig Hirschfeld–Mack: More than a Bauhaus Artist, HistorySmiths, 2021, pl. 120, pp. 210, 211 (illus., another example, as ‘War memorial cloisters, Geelong Grammar School')

Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack was a founding member of the Weimar Bauhaus who introduced Bauhaus methods into Australian art education. He joined the Weimar Bauhaus art school in 1920 where he worked and studied in the printing workshop. He taught at various institutions in Germany, Wales and England before being deported to Australia during World War II. He arrived in Victoria in 1940, and was then interned at Hay, Orange and Tatura. Following his internment, Hirschfeld-Mack was appointed to the position of Painting Master at Geelong Grammar School.
The preparation of woodblocks was one of Hirschfeld's most refined skills, and one which continued through much of his life and career.

Other impressions of this print are held in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; and National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
