清 和田白玉雕太獅少獅擺件 及 原配紫檀底座
玉在古代中國人的心中是高貴、高潔的象征，正所謂“君子比德於玉”，人們常用玉來比喻品格之高尚，以至於“君子無故，玉不離身”，通過佩玉來規範自己的言行，以正君子之行。玉石在天然形成時往往帶有皮色，巧匠們在製作玉器工藝品時，有時會留下部分皮色作為“巧色”，也就是所謂巧色玉的由來了。
這件作品正是巧妙地運用了玉料的皮色進行雕琢，完美地將玉料本身的白皙潤澤和皮色的深邃沉穩結合在了一起，呈現出一頭回首相望的麒麟形象。麒麟頭部的須角口目均鐫刻得清晰分明，四肢踡起臥於祥雲之上，強壯的身軀上佈滿鱗片，背上的如意包袱中露出捆扎起來的書冊。這種造型來自一個古老的傳說，據說當年孔子降生，有麒麟來到孔府吐出玉書，從此“麒麟背書”便被視為祥瑞的象征，預示著聖賢的誕生。玉麒麟身下承有原配祥雲木座，同樣以細緻的刀工將一朵朵密佈流雲刻畫得華美精細，與玉件形成絕佳的搭配。
